About

Hi, my name is Charlie March and I have worked as a carpenter since 1985. Two years previous I spent as an apprentice roofer, but abandoned (the high-life) to work with wood (a more grounded existence). My career was spent in residential construction on the Monterey Peninsula, specifically in Pacific Grove, Carmel, Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley, and Carmel Highlands. Eight of my last years there were as a General Contractor working by myself, as I do presently, on the South San Francisco peninsula, on small residential projects.

Presently, my focus is building landscape structures: pergolas, arbors, and decks. I have discovered an affinity, and great pleasure in designing and constructing them; they have become my niche. I am a finish carpenter at heart, and I apply this mentality to things typically built in a mundane fashion. I work best with clients who want a higher standard in construction technique, and aesthetics.

My intellectual interests run deep.

In 2000, with our children grown, my wife and I decided to our change lives’ courses. We moved from our home in Pacific Grove, CA and ended up living in England where I graduated, in 2007, with a PhD in Classics/Archaeology from the University of London, Royal Holloway. My thesis pertains to the architectural/religious transition from the classical (Greco-Roman) city in Jordan/Syria to the early medieval/Byzantine city during the fourth through sixth centuries AD. I have since self-published two books. See: www.marchwindspublishers.com.

I have also set up an England historical tour business to study cathedral and parish church architecture. See:  www.marchwindstours.com.

I would appreciate meeting with you to discuss any project you have in mind.

Best,

Charlie March
